Weight loss injections are prescription medications that copy the action of natural gut hormones — mainly GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), and in newer drugs also GIP. These hormones are released after you eat and tell your brain you are full.
By mimicking them, the medication:
The result is that eating less feels natural rather than a constant battle. They are designed for adults living with obesity, or with overweight plus a weight-related health condition, and must be prescribed by a licensed clinician.
Price depends mostly on whether you choose a branded pen or a compounded version, and on how a provider bundles its care.
Many providers now charge one flat price at every dose, so your bill doesn’t jump as your dose increases. Others offer discounts for paying three, six or twelve months upfront. Insurance cover for weight loss alone is limited, so most people pay out of pocket — check whether a provider includes the consultation, medication and shipping in its price or charges a separate membership fee.
An online assessment reviewed by a licensed doctor or nurse practitioner.
Your pens or vials, needles, alcohol swabs and clear dosing instructions.
Apps or portals to log weight, side effects and dose changes.
Messaging with clinicians, regular check-ins and, with some, nutrition coaching.
Cold-packed, unbranded shipping straight to your door — often free.
Month-to-month billing or discounted multi-month bundles.

Most side effects are digestive, mild to moderate, and strongest in the first weeks or right after a dose increase. Raising the dose slowly is the best way to keep them manageable.
Who should avoid them: people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, and people with a history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease. A clinician will screen for these during your consultation.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide are taken once a week, on the same day each week, into the stomach, thigh or upper arm. Liraglutide is a daily injection. Every programme starts on a low dose and steps up every four weeks or so until you reach a maintenance dose that balances results and tolerability.
Average body weight lost in major clinical trials over about 68–72 weeks
Fewer cravings and less “food noise” make portion control easier
Better blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol for many patients
Semaglutide has been shown to lower major cardiovascular events in people with heart disease
Many users also report better sleep, more energy, improved mobility and greater confidence as the weight comes off.

Share your weight, medical history and current medications — usually in under 10 minutes.
A licensed provider reviews your answers, sometimes with a video or phone call, and may request lab work.
If suitable, your prescription is filled by a partner pharmacy and shipped cold-packed to your door.
Regular check-ins to track progress, manage side effects and adjust your dose.
Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are made by licensed compounding pharmacies rather than the original manufacturer. They contain the same active ingredient but are not regulator-approved finished products, which means they haven’t been through the same testing for quality and consistency.
Once you stop, hunger typically returns within a few weeks and some weight regain is common — studies show many people regain a significant share of lost weight within a year. To protect your results, talk to your prescriber about tapering gradually or moving to a lower maintenance dose, and keep up the protein intake, strength training and eating habits you built during treatment.
Each provider is scored out of 10 across seven areas. Read the full methodology.
We read through hundreds of public discussions and reviews from people using GLP-1 treatments. A few themes came up again and again. The quotes below are paraphrased to summarise those themes; they are not verbatim reviews of any provider listed here.
“The food noise just… stopped. For the first time I’m not thinking about snacks all day.”
Appetite control
“The first two weeks after each dose bump were rough, but the nausea settled down.”
Side effects
“Switching to a flat-price provider saved me hundreds compared with my pharmacy.”
Cost
“Lifting weights and hitting my protein made a huge difference in how I looked, not just the scale.”
Maintenance
Most people notice reduced appetite within the first one to two weeks. Visible weight loss usually builds over the first two to three months as the dose is gradually increased, with the largest results typically seen between six and twelve months of consistent treatment.
GLP-1 medications make it much easier to eat less because they reduce hunger and help you feel full sooner, but they work best alongside sensible eating, enough protein and regular movement. Clinical trial results were achieved together with lifestyle changes, and those habits also help you keep the weight off.
Branded medications such as Wegovy® (semaglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide) have been approved by drug regulators specifically for chronic weight management. Ozempic® and Mounjaro® are approved for type 2 diabetes and are sometimes prescribed off-label for weight loss. Compounded versions are not regulator-approved finished products.
Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies, usually at a lower price than branded pens. They are legal when prescribed by a licensed clinician and made by a properly regulated pharmacy, but they do not go through the same approval process as branded products. Always choose a provider that names its pharmacy partner and requires a real medical consultation.
Both contain semaglutide. Ozempic® is approved for type 2 diabetes with a maximum weekly dose of 2 mg, while Wegovy® is approved for weight management and goes up to 2.4 mg weekly. The higher Wegovy® dose is the one studied in weight loss trials.
Stopping is not dangerous in itself, but appetite usually returns over a few weeks and many people regain some weight. Talk to your prescriber before stopping — they may suggest tapering the dose or a maintenance plan built around nutrition, strength training and regular check-ins.
Coverage varies widely and many plans do not cover medication prescribed purely for weight loss. Some providers offer a free insurance check, while others are cash-pay only with fixed monthly pricing. Several also accept health savings or flexible spending accounts.
You complete an online health questionnaire, then a licensed clinician reviews it — sometimes with a video or phone consultation. If treatment is suitable, the prescription is sent to a partner pharmacy and the medication ships to your door, followed by regular check-ins to adjust your dose.
